The State of AI in 2024
We have seen insane growth from AI companies all throughout 2024. NVIDIA, AMD, Microsoft, Apple, every big tech name is taking on AI and making it a priority. But why? What’s the big deal about AI?
In the past 1-2 years, AI has been almost unrecognizable how much it has changed. We have seen AI go from making shit posts on Twitter before Elon took over, spam bots creating posts to trick people into logging into their MetaMask accounts for “giveaways”, to Helper, manipulator, and savior. You have AI being a ‘helper’ in the business sense of software engineers using it to make coding decisions or help with errors. I’ve used it to help me generate more complex formulas for Excel and Google Sheets when my brain can’t comprehend another nested if statement and what that will do to the formula itself. You also have AI being an excellent manipulator, creating fake images and posts that look so close to the real thing that they cause mass confusion and panic. I can see this aspect of AI getting worse over the next 3-5 years as the software picks up more data and learns what people can, and will accept. And finally you have AI being the savior. What do I mean by this, exactly? Well, if AI can get good enough it can be our theoretical savior. It will be able to do tasks that we don’t want to do, that we don’t feel like doing, or tasks that we can’t even imagine are possible at one point in the future.
But what else can this help with outside of software engineers looking for coding advice?
1: Advanced Automation
We have seen an insane amount of help from AI come on the automation side. Chat GPT can take a thought of automation and take it to the next level. The unfortunate reality for many businesses trying to automate financial tasks or other smaller tasks that are very manual in today’s world is you still need some technical knowledge of the automation software to implement these changes. You might be able to get away with a copy and paste Excel macro, but outside of that or a formula update there is going to be some sort of technical knowledge needed to get python, or another software to work for you.
